Fun format, singing, movement & hands on activities! Classes 100% Spanish Immersion or mixed foreign languages with some English used. Teacher Maria Fermi has over 20 years experience in teaching and is the co-author and seminar leader for our own LMS First Steps in Spanish™ materials and curriculum. We hope and trust these classes will become a springboard for your child's passionate lifelong appreciation and skills with a foreign language and/or instrument! 100% Spainsh runs weekday mornings at 9:45 a.m. and/or 10:30 a.m. (except Wednesdays) and on Saturdays at 9:45 A.M.. Mixed language class runs Saturdays at 9:45 and/or 11:15.

Additional Info
Maximum class size is 11 students. MAKEUPS allowed on a different day space permitting (2/Session max). You must RSVP makeup date to prevent overcrowding. You can progress from this class into a private music or Spanish lesson or into the Spanish Immersion Preschool, Kindergarten or After School program. Siblings over 4 years old can observe class through one-way mirror. Materials to purchase: LMS First Steps in Spanish™ CD's to listen to at home or in your car!

We've been doing language immersion for over 10 years. Our director and AM teacher Maria Fermi has over 20 years teaching experience and is the co-author of the LMS First Steps in Spanish™ music-based curriculum. We have programs 9:30 - 12:30, 12:00 - 3:00, 9:30 - 3:00, 4:00 - 5:30 or you may do any choice of hours between 8 am-5:30 pm, 1-5 days/week, Mon-Friday, year round. If desired, before starting Immersion, we offer Parent & Child classes for students & parents to know The School and our staff. We have fun activities in a 100% Spanish environment leading to comfort level with the language, understanding of the teachers and curriculum and speaking and communicating words and phrases in Spanish with fluency. Students do arts & crafts, workbooks, songs and music based activities, story-time, snack time, free-time and more with a new theme each week. Knowledge and concepts learned in Spanish transfer well into English academics. Besides being within a music school, with the chance to take additional music lessons now or later on, students receive daily exposure to live staff instrumental performance during snack time (piano, violin, guitar, recorder, harp, clarinet, flute, saxophone, etc.). To continue studying Spanish after graduation from the early childhood/ Preschool/ Kindergarten program, The School offers private lessons or an After School Immersion program.

3 Hours (Half Day) 9:30am-12:30pm or 12:00-3:00pm (trial $40)
Attend 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 days a week at $168/Month, $312/Month, $432/Month, $528/Month or $600/Month respectively.
6 Hours (Full Day) 9:30am-3:00pm (do 3 hr. trial: $40), Attend 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 days a week at $312/Month, $528/Month, $735/Month, $864/Month or $1,080/Month respectively.
Preschool & Kindergarten Curriculum Half or full day. Minimum 12 hours/week to be considered Preschool or Kindergarten. PreK/K and other Immersion students will be together for part of the class. PreK/K students will be separated for the last hour of class each day for specifically academic focused curriculum. Must be 3 by Sept. 7th and registered for at least 12 hours of class time per week. Pricing same as above half or full day.
1 Hour Exposure Any (1) hour of class-time between 9:30 am-3:00 pm. Trial $20. Attend 1, 2, 3, or 4 days a week at $79/Month, $143/Month, $190/Month, or $237/Month respectively.
After School Immersion 4:00-5:30pm Fridays (trial $18)
Theater in Spanish (trial $21) 4:00-5:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays or 9:30-11:00am on Saturdays

Additional Spanish Immersion Recommendations
PLACEMENT VISIT WITH DIRECTOR REQUIRED: Before starting Spanish Immersion classes, you must attend (1) class with program director Maria Fermi.  Children 2-4 years old should do a 45 minute group Parent & Child together “Music with Movement and Spanish” trial class with Maria (offered Mondays at 10:30 or Tuesday or Thursday at 9:45am)($15).  Children 5 and up should do a private lesson ($23) where the child will go alone for some activities with Maria and then the parent will also have the opportunity to speak with Maria and to see a classroom at The School.  Private lessons are available weekdays or Saturdays at 12:00 or 12:30pm.  These above visits provide the chance for all parties to meet before proceeding with registration!

DAYS PER WEEK: Depending on each unique student, a child coming 3-5 days per week has the advantage of repetition and may feel more comfortable. Fewer days per week may be recommended when the child is already more familiar with Spanish. A private lesson may be superior to 1-2 days/week of group immersion.

ADDING A PRIVATE LESSON: Add a Private Lesson to your Immersion schedule ($198/8 weeks).  Options include Spanish, Piano, Spanish & Piano Combo, and more!  Lesson time must be during your Immersion/PreK/K hours.  Many students already feel special with this opportunity.  A block of 1-on-1 attention in the mist of the busy school day!  See Private Lessons heading for more info!

Languages Taught
We offer instruction in approximately 10 different foreign languages, including Spanish, French, Italian, German, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese (for the most up to date list of what is offered and when, please click on the link 'QUICK TO PRINT - Class times and teacher profiles'!)

Children 2-9 Years
Fun Format. No English used. Appropriate workbook will be used for most languages. Additional materials custom selected by instructor. Bring a tape recorder and blank tape to class. Record the lesson so that you may play the tape in the background at home or in the care at least 4 days/week while child is drawing, playing, etc. to reinforce learning. Make this a positive time for subconscious reinforcement. 30-minute one-on-one sessions.
10 years - adult
Conversational focus. 30 minute 1-on-1 sessions combine with audio-tape and other homework options to bring you the results you're looking for. Lessons geared towards your goals, level and subject area. Gain the skills, confidence and experience needed to communicate fluently! In addition to your weekly 1-on-1 session, you will have conversational practice out loud 30 minutes/day at home with CD's or cassettes you will check out from our learning library. Workbooks and other materials custom selected by instructor.
Private Lessons $198 per 8 weeks (trial class $23)
Semi-Private (2-3 Students) $158 per 8 weeks (trial class $17)
Parent & Child (Both learn as students (for children ages 1-9): $262/8 weeks…
or… Parent in merely supportive involvement (for children ages 3-5): $248/8 weeks)

Instruments Taught

Piano, Guitar, Violin, Viola, Cello, Voice, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet & Trombone, Accordion and more. Call for days and times each instrument is offered. Piano instructors available Mon-Sat. Many instruments offered weekday evenings and Saturdays.

Other Notes On The Program

FORMAT: 30 minute intensive 1-on-1 sessions/week + practice at home

TRY SEVERAL INSTRUCTORS: We highly suggest signing up for at least (2) separate trial classes with available instructors before you register. It is best to know your options and choose according to your experience during your trial class. To further encourage you to take two (2) trial classes, we have discounted the 2nd trial (the 1st trial costs #23) to only $10 (must be of the same discipline)!

FREE CONSULTATION: Free phone or personal consultation with founder and coordinator Maria Fermi. Maria is an early childhood foreign language seminar leader with 20 years experience in teaching.

MAKEUP POLICY: You must cancel the day prior in order to receive a make-up. 1 make-up/session.

PRACTICING TIPS: Practicing 15 minutes per day is much better than longer periods less consistently. Create a stimulating routine to complete each day using stickers, charts and other engaging props kept readily available.

INSTRUMENT RENTAL: Austin Music Center, 6815 W. North Ave. (just west of Oak Park Ave.), Oak Park, 708/383-1961, is only 5 minutes from us and rents most instruments, usually around $50 for 3 months. They also sell child size guitars and other instruments.

DO WE NEED A PIANO?: We recommend almost any basic keyboard (with full size keys) at home for the first 1-2 years of instruction (available at Best Buy, Toys R Us etc.). After this period, a piano, keyboard with weighted keys or digital piano are recommended. We purchase our own pianos from American Music World which has been serving the Chicago-land arrea for more than 27-years. You will receive a discount when referred by The Language and Music School, but you must call in advance for the manager (Ray) at 708-771-1890! American Music World sells keyboards starting around $200 and pianos in all price ranges starting around $700.
